My name is Ellie Bennett, and I am a person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist based in Kendal, Cumbria. I offer counselling sessions both at my private practice in Kendal and online, providing flexible options to support you wherever you feel most comfortable. I specialise in working with young adults, helping individuals navigate life’s complexities—from anxiety and depression to relationship challenges, self-esteem issues, and the impact of past trauma. Whether you’re facing a specific struggle or simply feeling stuck, I’m here to support your journey towards greater self-understanding, resilience, and emotional wellbeing.
Using a person-centred approach, I create a warm, empathetic, and non-judgemental space where you are free to explore your thoughts and feelings openly. Together, we’ll work at your own pace to uncover your strengths, build coping strategies, and empower you to make meaningful changes in your life.
As an accredited, registered member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), I uphold the highest ethical standards to ensure your safety, confidentiality, and trust throughout our work together.
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma (PgD) in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Cumbria, where I developed advanced skills to tailor therapy uniquely to each individual’s needs. My goal is to walk alongside you in your healing journey, providing compassionate, client-centred care that honours your unique story.

About Me
My journey to becoming a counsellor has been one with challenge.
My passion for counselling was ignited by a lifelong desire to help, support, and truly listen to others. After completing my undergraduate degree in 2020, my life took an unexpected turn following the first lockdown, I became almost debilitated by symptomatic hypermobility. I was eventually diagnosed with a mixed connective tissue disorder—a process that took five years to diagnose. During this time, I redirected my energy into retraining in counselling and psychotherapy, driven by a renewed sense of purpose and a desire to turn my lived experience into something meaningful. I immersed myself into my studies, which became both a personal and professional lifeline.
This experience gave me a profound insight into the emotional impact of loss, particularly the loss of identity. It deepened my empathy and strengthened my commitment to supporting others who may be navigating grief, illness, or personal suffering.
Today, I offer a person-centred approach to counselling, working alongside each individual with empathy and respect. I believe in the importance of truly listening and meeting people where they are, helping them make sense of their experiences and move forward in a way that feels right for them. My aim is to support each person in feeling seen, understood, and valued throughout their journey.

How does counselling help?
Counselling provides a safe, confidential space where you can explore thoughts, emotions and challenges. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, grief, or relationship issues, bereavement, low self-esteem or feeling lost or stuck, counselling can help to make sense of what you're going through, help you gain clarity and build emotional resilience. My belief as a person-centred counsellor is that each individual has their own unique experiences. Having a non-judgemental environment to explore different thoughts and feelings can help you to regain confidence, which over time this can lead to increased self awareness, helping you to create a stronger sense of self and take back control of your life.
